Charles Herbertson

Public Works Director and City Engineer, City of Culver City

Mr. Herbertson has been the Public Works Director and City Engineer for the City of Culver City since 2004. In this capacity he is in overall charge of the Department and oversees the activities of its four divisions: Administration, Engineering, Environmental Programs & Operations, and Maintenance Operations. In this capacity Mr. Herbertson is responsible for all aspects for Public Works operations in Culver City including engineering, capital programs, environmental programs such as stormwater pollution prevention and sanitation and recycling services and maintenance operations including maintenance of all City streets, facilities, sewer systems, street lights and the urban forest.

Mr. Herbertson previously worked for the City of Hawthorne for almost 20 years where he worked in various capacities including City Engineer and Airport Manager, Chief of General Services and Public Works and Interim City Manager. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a commissioned Officer in the submarine force and as a Naval Reserve Officer with the Seabees.

Charles is a native of Norfolk, Virginia and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University. He also has a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. He is a licensed professional Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor in the State of California.
